It appears that the state of Florida is becoming a coronavirus success story, thanks to the leadership of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R).
Much to the dismay of the Democrats, Florida currently has some of the best coronavirus statistics in the country, despite DeSantis’s anti-mandate, anti-lockdown approach to the pandemic.
The latest statistics
These numbers come from the New York Times’ daily coronavirus tracker.
What the tracker shows is that Florida, each day, is only experiencing about nine new coronavirus cases per 100,000 individuals. According to Breitbart, this is one of the top figures in the country, and it is shared by Lousiana, Hawaii, and Connecticut.
Earlier this week, the Daily Mail put out a report based on the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This data also showed that Florida is experiencing about nine new cases per 100,000 people each day.
And, according to the CDC, Florida also has one of the lowest weekly coronavirus death rates in the country. The state is witnessing about 0.2 deaths per 100,000 people per week, which puts it right up there with the top states.
The significance of the numbers
It wasn’t too long ago that the left was using Florida as an example of how not to handle the coronavirus pandemic.
That’s because, during the summer, Florida had some of the worst coronavirus cases in the country. At one point, the state was seeing about 101 new coronavirus cases per 100,000 people each day. And, the state, each day, was seeing a death rate of around 1.77 per 100,000 people.
Nonetheless, DeSantis stayed true to his vow not to go down the mandate/lockdown route. And, it now appears to be paying off for him, and more importantly, for the people of Florida, as the numbers have dropped by some 90 percent.
States that have gone down the mandate/lockdown route have had mixed results.
Michigan, for example, which under Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s leadership has seen some of the strongest coronavirus restrictions in the country, is currently reporting about 40 cases per 100,000 people per day.
One cannot help but wonder whether those states that have gone down the lockdown/mandate route and that are currently doing well have simply postponed the fight with the coronavirus. It would be ironic if Florida became the model for how to beat the coronavirus, despite everything the likes of Dr. Anthony Fauci and the left claimed over the past year.
