Taxpayer funded museum wants to help you recognize “whiteness”

It doesn’t get much more absurd than this.

The National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) this week posted a graphic on Twitter that apparently seeks to characterize “whiteness” or “white dominant culture.” (Some might remember NMAAHC for the 2019 spat between its director and President Trump.)

That’s racist

The graphic, according to Fox News, is part of an article called “talking about race.”

“White dominant culture, or whiteness, refers to the ways white people and their traditions, attitudes, and ways of life have been normalized over time and are now considered standard practices in the United States,” it reads. “And since white people still hold most of the institutional power in America, we have all internalized some aspects of white culture – including people of color.”

The graphic goes on to list those qualities that are specific to “whiteness,” we guess so that you can recognize whiteness and prevent yourself from being adulterated by it. The only problem is . . .

Wait a minute

. . . Most of the traits listed in the graphic are just human virtues that have nothing to do with race – the sort of virtues that are needed for humans to be successful in life.

This includes things like “hard work” being the “key to success,” “Objective, rational linear thinking,” “Cause and effect relationships,” “self-reliance,” avoiding “conflict,” being “polite,” the “nuclear family,” and so on. These are all on the list of traits that define “whiteness.”

Also included is the “written tradition” and the “scientific method.” That’s right, you scientists, if you all want to appear woke, you’re going to have to come up with some other, non-white method.

And, here’s the real kicker: the NMAAHC gets its funding from you – the taxpayer!

Ridiculous

The NMAAHC is receiving some blowback for its tweet from conservatives, and rightfully so.

“So um this is crazy,” tweeted conservative commentator Ben Shapiro. “It’s not just crazy, it’s evil and counterproductive. It suggests that all pathways to success — hard work, stable family structure, individual decisionmaking — represent complicity in white supremacy. Which incentivizes all the paths to failure, of course.”

But, the truth of the matter is that the NMAAHC is mostly being allowed to get away with what is one of the most self-evidently racist things that you are ever likely to come across here in America. Just imagine if the shoe was on the other foot!
