Twitter bans Trump, Trump supporters return the favor

The New York Post reports that supporters of President Donald Trump are ditching Twitter “en masse.”

This comes as the result of the social media site’s decision to permanently ban President Trump’s account. Twitter has tried to claim that the decision was a necessary one to prevent the same sort of violence that took place in Washington D.C. on Wednesday.

Supporters of the president, however, are not buying this explanation. Instead, they are ditching the platform heading for others, like Parler, that support free speech. Parler, in fact, crashed on Friday night due to the sudden rise in traffic.

On Thursday, it was reported that Twitter’s shares fell by 1.8 percent, and that was only after the social media site temporarily banned President Trump. It will be interesting to see what the company’s shares will be at come Monday. Who knows – Twitter may have just signed its own death certificate.

Social media startup?

In the meantime, President Trump and his 75 million supporters need a new platform. The question is, “where will they go?”

President Trump touched upon this in a statement that he released Friday night after being banned from Twitter.

“We have been negotiating with various other sites, and will have a big announcement soon, while we also look at the possibilities of building out our own platform in the near future,” Trump said. “We will not be SILENCED!”

Earlier in the day on Friday, President Trump promised his supporters “a GIANT VOICE.”

“The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future,” President Trump said. “They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!”

News outlet startup?

In addition to his own social media site, President Trump has also hinted at starting his own news outlet.

The president has done so on a number of occasions, including in October of 2019, saying, “We’re looking at that.”

We’ll see what President Trump decides to do once he leaves office. But, it looks certain that he will not abandon his followers. He is determined to make sure that their voice is heard going forward.
