U.S. think tank has a plan to slow Biden’s climate change agenda down

Democrat Joe Biden revealed over the weekend his intention to push an “ambitious” left-wing environmental agenda that would include rejoining the Paris Agreement.

Fox Business reports that a libertarian think tank here in the U.S. has come up with a strategy that President Donald Trump can use to prevent Biden from entering American back into the treaty.

The group that is pushing the plan is the Center for Energy and Environment, which is part of the Competitive Enterprise Insitute (CEI).

According to CEI’s website, the institute “advocates for free-market reforms that ensure abundant and affordable energy and better protect our environment.” It adds: “CEI has been instrumental in fighting decades of climate alarmism and anti-energy policies that constrict energy supplies, raise prices, and stoke unjustified pessimism about human adaptive capabilities.”

The plan

Myron Ebell, the man who leads CEI’s ENergy and Environment center, described the plan that he has for President Trump in a recent conference call.

“We are encouraging [President Trump] to review the [Paris] agreement and recognize that it is in fact a treaty and transmit it before January 20 to the Senate for its advice,” Ebell said. “If that happens, the treaty will be in limbo until such time as the Senate decides to vote on it.”

The idea is clear: first, if Republicans gain control of the Senate they can simply choose not to vote on it; and, second, even if Republicans don’t control the Senate, the composition of the senate – about 50/50 – would make it almost impossible to get the two-thirds needed to ratify the treaty.

In essence, President Trump, before leaving office, can give the Paris Agreement to the Senate where it would go to die.

Some context

The Paris Agreement is a legally binding international treaty with environmental goals for member countries. President Trump promised, upon taking office, to pull America out of the Paris Agreement, and he did.

President Trump did this for two main reasons: it is not effective and it hurts America.

Nonetheless, Biden and his climate team plan to reenter the Paris Agreement. In fact, John Kerry, Biden’s so-called “climate czar” has promised to make the Paris Agreement “stronger.”

It’s worth keeping an eye on whether President Trump goes for the plan suggested by CEI. Biden’s environmental plan could prove disastrous for our country.
