DANIEL VAUGHAN: Send In The Troops To Columbia And Other Places Terrorist-Sympathizers Exist

We're in the middle of Passover week of Judaism. In the lead-up to this week, multiple Ivy League schools have pro-terrorist groups taking them over. Columbia sits at the top of the worst offenders, but other schools are dealing with these people, too. The federal government needs to declare an end to this and send in the troops: no room for antisemitic, pro-terrorist groups harassing Jewish Americans.

It's not overstating things to make the connection to terrorist groups. In the weeks leading up to the explosion of antisemitism on these college campuses, the "speakers" showing up had one goal.

The New York Post reports that Charlotte Kates, international coordinator of Samidoun, the Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, and her husband, Khaled Barakat, told students, "There is nothing wrong with being a fighter in Hamas ... These are the people who are on the front lines defending Palestine and fighting for its liberation."

The Post notes, "Barakat is a senior member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), which is a designated terrorist organization responsible for a string of attacks on Israeli civilians and closely allied to both Hamas and Hezbollah. Among the outrages for which it has claimed responsibility is a 2014 attack on a Jerusalem synagogue in which attackers armed with meat cleavers killed four rabbis, three of them Israeli Americans. The PFLP took part in the October 7 massacres and previously murdered a 17-year-old Israeli girl while she was hiking."

These are not peaceful protesters seeking the things of hippies, rainbows, and unicorns. These are lethal groups seeking the end of Israel and Jews. In response, Columbia and other schools are "negotiating" with the protest organizers. They want the encampments to leave, but there's no force. Instead, they've just gone to online only classes.

Force is required.

Rabbis are warning Jewish students to leave Columbia and not return because it isn't safe. Jewish Professors are being blocked from entering their offices and prevented from working. And those are the nice protestors. Less savory types are outright threatening Jews with murder and cheering on the Hamas attacks.

This is not a kid-glove situation. Senators Tom Cotton and Josh Hawley are calling for the President to send the National Guard to restore order. This is not just the right solution - it's becoming the only solution.

In a statement, Cotton said, "The nascent pogroms at Columbia have to stop TODAY, before our Jewish brethren sit for Passover Seder tonight ... If Eric Adams won't send the NYPD and Kathy Hochul won't send the National Guard, Joe Biden has a duty to take charge and break up these mobs."

Senators aren't alone. Jonathan Greenblatt, head of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), went through Columbia, saw the events firsthand, and talked with students. He called conditions appalling and demanded the NYPD or National Guard enter campus to protect students.

Greenblatt sits on the liberal side of the spectrum, while Cotton and Hawley are Republicans. If you have eyes, what's happening at Columbia and other schools is apparent. When Neo-Nazi groups swamped Charlottesville, Virginia, and chanted "Jews Will Not Replace Us," it was correctly derided.

This is the Left's moment to deal with their version of Charlottesville. The problem for them is that this isn't localized to one city. We're witnessing widespread Jew-hatred across the country.

Seth Mandel writes in Commentary, "The skinheads in Charlottesville weren't deterred from their version of this ideology just because they live outside of Germany. Similarly, those who chant 'Palestine is Arab' subscribe to this racial hierarchy wherever they are. That this chant was delivered outside the White House, for example, is not a protest of Israeli policy but rather a challenge to the foundational ideas and values of the United States."

There's little sign the current path is dissuading the antisemites, making camps across the United States from stopping their evil actions and words. Even with the push to force them out, there are signs they plan on staying or breaking up in smaller groups to evade police.

Order must be restored, and students must get protection from those threatening to harm them. This is not a free speech issue; it's terrorists and their sympathizers trying to create terrorizing mobs in public spaces. If the police don't do their jobs, the National Guard should answer the call.

And with neither the Mayor nor the Governor interested in protecting Jews from these antisemitic mobs, the President must answer the call. Send in the troops and restore order. Kick the filth off these campuses. Jews should not be afraid to live freely in America. People cheering Hamas and October the 7th have no place in the United States of America.

" A free people [claim] their rights, as derived from the laws of nature."
