Barron Trump, the youngest son of former President Donald Trump, turned 18 last month and is set to graduate from high school in May.

He is expected to attend college in the fall, as his four older siblings did, but unlike them, he has a different institution of higher learning in mind, according to Hello! Magazine.

Rather than attend the University of Pennsylvania and its Wharton School of Business, as his father and siblings Don Jr., Ivanka, and Tiffany did, or Georgetown University, as siblings Eric and Tiffany did -- Tiffany attended Georgetown Law School -- Barron is reportedly looking at a university in New York City.

Barron reportedly eyeing NYU as his school of choice

The Daily Beast, citing unnamed sources, reported last week that Barron Trump is looking closely at enrolling at New York University in the fall.

The NYU campus is located approximately three miles from Trump Tower, where Barron grew up and still resides whenever he is in the city.

The report indicated that the decision is not yet final and could be altered, with Barron possibly attending UPenn like his father and three older siblings, but that decision will likely come soon as commitment on enrollment deadlines are just weeks away.

Will Melania follow her son to New York City?

When Barron turned 18 in March, People Magazine reported that he would soon be graduating from the prestigious private school he has attended in Palm Beach, Florida, for the past few years, Oxbridge Academy.

That article also made note of the former president's youngest son's ongoing college search at the time and noted that former first lady Melania Trump, who by all accounts has been an exceptionally devoted mother, was "very involved" in the decision-making process.

"Melania’s main job is taking care of Barron, and I think it’s possible that she will follow him wherever he goes to school," an unnamed social source told People. "Barron is shy and reserved, and she has been a good mother to him all of these years."

According to the Daily Beast, that desire to stay close to her only child could present a potential problem for Melania, if the former president wins re-election to a second term in the White House in November, as she would then need to balance her time between supporting her son in New York City and her husband in Washington D.C.

Will Trump be allowed to attend Barron's graduation?

As for Barron's impending high school graduation in May, there has been talk that former President Trump will be forced to miss that momentous occasion for his youngest child because of his mandatory attendance at his ongoing criminal trial in New York -- talk that has been fueled by Trump's complaints about that possibility and amplified by his supporters and detractors.

Trump being barred from attending Barron's graduation is not yet a certainty, however, according to the Associated Press, as the trial's presiding judge, Juan Merchan, has not yet ruled on a request for an adjournment on that day.

The judge said he would wait until closer to the May 17 date of the graduation to rule on the request, with his decision being dependent upon the pace at which the trial has proceeded to that point, leaving open the possibility that he will grant the requested adjournment for the day if losing a day won't set things too far behind schedule.

Of course, the former president could also defy the judge and attend his son's graduation regardless of whether he is granted an allowance to do so, though he would likely risk being held in contempt of court for violating the mandatory attendance order and potentially face a fine or even a brief stint in jail.
