President Joe Biden caused a political earthquake earlier this year after he ended his reelection campaign following a disastrous debate against former President Donald Trump.

However, the Biden family secured a rare victory this week in the form of a court decision against a former Trump aide.

Case involves Biden's infamous laptop

According to the New York Post, Hunter Biden was awarded legal fees to be paid by Garrett Ziegler, who previously worked under the Trump White House's trade adviser Peter Peter Navarro.

The Post noted that the president's son is suing Ziegler for using a website known as Marco Polo to publicize material found on Biden's infamous laptop.

Mr. Biden failed to retrieve the electronic device after bringing it to Delaware computer technician John Paul Mac Isaac in 2019.

Although dozens of former intelligence officials initially claimed that the laptop and its incriminating content was Russian disinformation, mainstream media outlets have since confirmed its authenticity.

Ziegler ordered to pay Biden $17,929 worth of expenses

In a ruling on Monday, federal Judge Hernan Vera ordered that Ziegler reimburse Biden the $17,929 he expended to fight a dismissal motion which was "totally devoid of merit."

Abbe Lowell serves as Biden's lawyers, and he celebrated the judge's decision in a statement, saying, "This is just the beginning of Mr. Ziegler being held accountable for what he has done."

"As we have demonstrated, from the time he illegally accessed Mr. Biden’s personal data to his court papers trying to defend his conduct, Mr. Ziegler has violated the law," he added.

The Post pointed out that Ziegler is not Biden's only target, as he is also suing Isaac for disseminating Issac for disseminating the laptop's contents. Meanwhile, Issac has responded by accusing the president's son of defamation in a lawsuit of his own.

Biden pleads guilty to 11 charges in federal tax case

Biden's legal win came a week after he pleaded guilty to 11 charges in a $1.4 million federal tax case brought by Special Counsel David Weiss.

"I will not subject my family to more pain, more invasions of privacy and needless embarrassment," Biden was quoted as saying. "For all I have put them through over the years, I can spare them this, and so I have decided to plead guilty."

The president's son was also convicted in June on federal gun charges brought over the illegal purchase of a handgun in 2018.
