The decline of President Joe Biden's physical and mental health was on full display during last week's debate and it has raised some serious questions over his current cognitive state and the extent of his diminishment.

The Daily Mail reported on a new poll revealed that more than 70% of U.S. voters believe that Biden should submit to a cognitive test, though it seems unlikely that his less than fully transparent White House will go for that.

That poll also confirmed that Biden's declining health has become noticeably worse over the past few months and that a majority of the public believes the media has been attempting to keep the president's deteriorating condition largely hidden from view.

Biden needs to be tested, condition is getting worse

In the aftermath of President Biden's disastrous debate performance, the Daily Mail surveyed 1,000 likely voters and found that a combined 72% either "somewhat" or "strongly" agree that Biden should undergo a cognitive test, with 70% suggesting he receive another physical exam as well.

The pollsters further discovered that 60% of voters agree that Biden's physical and mental health has become "notably worse" over the past year while 55% agree that his health has noticeably declined over the past month.

It was also revealed that 52% of those polled agreed that at least some portions of the media "hid Biden's age issues" from the public ahead of the debate, and 40% of respondents agreed that Biden's cabinet should invoke the 25th Amendment to have him removed from office.

"The only option for the White House now -- if they want Biden to stay in -- is for full transparency," pollster James Johnson told the Daily Mail. "If Biden really does not have an age problem then they need to show everything they can to try and reassure voters of that, right down to medical tests. Even then it feels like voters have already made their minds up that Biden is unfit to govern."

Public needs assurance that Biden is mentally fit for the job

In an op-ed for Stat News, New York University clinical professor and physician Dr. Lawrence Altman wrote that President Biden needs to undergo a full medical evaluation and that voters deserve to know the results.

"The public needs to be reassured that despite being physically feeble, there isn’t something medically wrong with Biden to explain the mental lapses, rambling, mid-sentence stumbles, apparent loss of concentration, open-mouth gaping, and flat facial expression that viewers saw during the debate," he said.

It was noted that Biden last underwent a physical exam in February, though it is not believed that his cognitive health was assessed at that time. Altman wrote, "I believe it would have been wise for Biden to have taken such a test in February and that he should do so now, if for no other reason than to assure the public of his mental fitness."

Altman, a former reporter who has covered the health of U.S. presidents since Ronald Reagan, concluded, "I cannot recall any other episode that has galvanized so much public attention on the physical and mental health of a presidential candidate as this one. That Biden is a sitting president who already holds the record as the oldest occupant of the Oval Office and wants to extend that record heightens the importance of knowing he is fit for that office."

Even Pelosi agrees that Biden -- and Trump, of course -- should be tested

Surprisingly enough, it appears that even former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) agrees that President Biden should have his "mental acuity" tested, though she predictably roped former President Donald Trump into the mix as needed to be tested as well, according to NBC News.

"I think it's a legitimate question to say, is this an episode, or is this a condition?" Pelosi said of Biden's shocking debate performance. "And so when people ask that question, it's completely legitimate -- of both candidates."

"Both candidates owe whatever test you want to put them to, in terms of their mental acuity and their health -- both of them," she added -- though her office later walked back the apparent critique of the incumbent and stressed that the congresswoman "has full confidence in President Biden and looks forward to attending his inauguration on January 20, 2025."
