Many congressional Democrats have turned on President Joe Biden since his debate performance. 

This is according to a report from the New York Post. 

According to the outlet, some of these congressional Democrats who have turned on Biden even want him to remove himself from the running for the 2024 presidential election.

This is a continuation of the backlash that has followed Biden's poor performance in the first presidential debate.

The latest

At the time of this writing, there are three Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives who have actually gone so far as to call for Biden to step aside. They are U.S. Reps. Seth Moulton (D-MA), Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), and Lloyd Doggett (D-TX).

Moulton is the latest House Democrat to do so. On Thursday, he told WBUR radio, "President Biden has done enormous service to our country, but now is the time for him to follow in one of our founding father George Washington’s footsteps and step aside to let new leaders rise up and run against Donald Trump."

In addition to these three House Democrats, many more House Democrats have essentially expressed doubt about Biden going forward.

This, surprisingly, even includes former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

During an appearance, last week, on MSNBC, she said:

I think it’s a legitimate question to say, is this an episode, or is this a condition? Both candidates owe whatever test you want to put them to, in terms of their mental acuity and their health.

Biden refuses to step aside

Biden is refusing to step aside, despite the fact that it now appears that a significant portion of the Democratic Party is against him running for reelection.

During Biden's ABC News interview on Friday, he was asked about the Democratic calls for him to step aside.

Biden said:

I say the vast majority are not where that-- those folks are. I don't doubt there are some folks there. Have you ever seen a group-- ta-- time when elected officials running for office aren't little worried? Have you ever seen that? I've not. Same thing happened in 2020. "Oh, Biden, I don't know. Man, what's he gonna do? He may bring me down, he may (PH).

The president, instead, insisted that he is running for reelection and that everything is not as bad as it seems.

But, when asked about the possibility of losing to former President Donald Trump, Biden said, "I'll feel as long as I gave it my all and I did the goodest job as I know I can do. That's what this is about."
