President Joe Biden just seriously undermined his attempt to regain credibility following his poor debate performance. 

He did so, according to the New York Post, by making what many are referring to as his worst gaffe ever.

Considering Biden's gaffe resume, you are probably thinking that it has to be something that is really bad - and it is.

What was it? It was Biden referring to himself as the "first black woman to serve with a black president."

We're not making this up

Biden made the blunder during an interview that he did on Thursday on Philadelphia, Pennsylvania's WURD black radio station.

The Post notes that this interview was "part of an Independence Day media blitz a week on from his train-wreck debate performance." In other words, the interview was designed to pick up the pieces from the debate disaster. But, if anything, it made things worse.

It appears that what Biden was trying to do was pander to Black voters by pointing out the fact that he was the vice president under Barack Obama - the first Black president - and the fact that Kamala Harris is the country's first female Black vice president.

But, that's not what came out when Biden spoke.

Here is what he actually said, "By the way, I’m proud to be, as I said, the first vice president, first black woman, to serve with a black president."

It's not helping

The biggest event for Biden since his debate with former President Donald Trump was the interview that he did on Friday on ABC with the Clinton-linked George Stephanopoulos.

Going into the interview, everybody seemed to recognize that the interview as essentially designed by the Democrats to help Biden recover from his poor debate performance. But, somewhat surprisingly, things did not go according to plan.

Fox News reports:

President Biden did not calm his critics on Friday night following his interview with ABC News, fueling more calls for him to withdraw from the 2024 race and sparking fierce condemnation for refusing to commit to a cognitive exam.

The outlet then went on to back its reporting up with direct quotes from several prominent Democrats, among others. The Atlantic contributing writer Tyler Austin Harper, for example, wrote:

So in summary: Biden refused to say he’d take a cognitive test, refused to say he would consider stepping down if key allies asked him to, said the polls are fake news, and that he wouldn’t fret if he lost as long as he tried his best. This is all Trumpian bull****. Just madness.

It remains to be seen how this will all play out. But, it is hard to believe, at this point, that Biden is still a viable candidate.
