Former daytime television talk show host Ellen DeGeneres dropped out of the headlines in recent years after bombshell reports of workplace harassment and toxic work environments essentially destroyed her reputation.

According to The Daily Wire, DeGeneres addressed her departure from daytime TV in her recent comeback stand-up comedy tour called “Ellen’s Last Stand…Up."

She reportedly spoke to fans who attended her nearly sold-out show and discussed her 19 seasons on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," which won multiple awards during its reign.

DeGeneres joked about the situation, which stemmed from a Buzzfeed report in 2020 detailing the "toxic" work environment she reportedly fostered, which shocked and surprised her fan base, ultimately leading to her demise.

What did she say?

The former talk show host seemed to take the controversy in stride, if not downright brushing it off as she used humor to mask the embarrassment of being forced off of TV.

"I used to say, ‘I don’t care what people say about me,'” she added. “Now I realize I said that during the height of my popularity."

The Daily Wire noted:

During her set, DeGeneres pointed out that her recent ousting wasn’t the first time she was kicked out of show business, pointing back to when she said it first happened in 1997 when she came out as a lesbian.

“Next time, I’ll be kicked out for being old. Old, gay and mean, the triple crown,” DeGeneres told the audience. "I can be demanding and impatient and tough. I am a strong woman."

The night took a turn when she announced that she would be abruptly cancelling the rest of whatever stand-up and comedy career she had planned.

DeGeneres made clear that the performance in San Fransisco would likely be her "last hurrah."

That came at the same time it was reported that she suddenly canceled four other scheduled shows.

The outlet noted:

Following the SF Gate report about her being labeled mean, The Hollywood Reporter noted that DeGeneres had canceled four other shows as part of her tour with no explanation as to why. The shows are in July and August in Dallas, San Francisco, Chicago, and Seattle, the outlet noted.

Only time will tell if she ever makes a return to the business.
