Vice President Kamala Harris's husband - Second gentleman Doug Emhoff - has tested positive for the coronavirus.

This has been confirmed by Liza Acevedo, Emhoff's communications director.

Acevedo released a statement, confirming the positive test result, on Saturday.

"Fully vaccinated and three times boosted"

Acevedo reveals that Emhoff was tested for COVID after experiencing what she describes as "mild symptoms." No further details about those "mild symptoms" were provided, but, confusingly, she also described Emhoff as "asymptomatic."

"Yesterday, the Second Gentleman tested positive for COVID-19 after experiencing mild symptoms. He is fully vaccinated and three times boosted. He is currently asymptomatic, continuing to work remotely, and remaining away from others at home," Acevedo writes.

She goes on to reveal that, given Emhoff's positive test result, Vice President Harris has also been tested. Thus far, however, she has tested negative.

"Out of an abundance of caution, yesterday, the Vice President was tested for COVID-19. She tested negative and remains asymptomatic," Acevedo writes.

At the time of this writing, no further details on the situation have been provided.

Background

Interestingly, CNN reports that Emhoff's diagnosis comes not long after he was on the White House balcony with President Joe Biden.

Per the outlet:

The couple [Harris and Emhoff] were on a balcony at the White House with President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden on Thursday for an Independence Day celebration. CNN has reached out to the White House to ask whether the president is being tested.

This all took place after Biden's poor performance at the first presidential debate. The reader will likely remember that Biden - among of myriad of other excuses - attributed his poor performance to a "cold." Could it be that the "cold" was COVID and that he gave COVID to Emhoff?

We do not know the answer to that, and, in many respects, it really does not matter. Something that does matter, though, is that Biden continues to face calls - from within his own party - to step aside and to let someone else take his place on the 2024 ballot.

There has been significant speculation about Biden's replacement, and it now appears that many Democrats are pushing for Harris to take Biden's place on the ticket. This has come as a surprise to many considering Harris's lack of popularity.
