The son of actor Nicolas Cage was arrested Wednesday for allegedly beating his mother during a mental breakdown.

33-year-old Weston Coppola Cage was booked in Los Angeles over an April incident that left his mother, actor Christina Fulton, battered and bruised.

Around 7 a.m. Wednesday, Weston was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. He was released on $150,000 bail hours later.

Nicolas Cage's son arrested

According to People, Weston surrendered at the police station after a warrant was put out for his arrest.

His famous actor father reportedly paid the bail money, according to The Sun.

The arrest is believed to be related to an April incident in which Weston allegedly beat Fulton following an altercation.

“The family knew this was going to happen but needless to say, it is a very big shock," a source said of the arrest.

Mother's statement

At the time of the alleged assault, Fulton was photographed with severe bruises on her face.

In a statement to People at the time, she denied that any argument had taken place with her son. She affirmed her support for her son, whom she said had a mental breakdown that led to "horrific" consequences.

"I acted swiftly to ensure his safety," she told People.

"Upon my arrival, I was met by my son who clearly was in a state of a mental-health breakdown, which in turn became a horrific experience. I have always supported helping my son with his mental-health struggles," she said.

History of legal trouble

Weston has a history of legal troubles. In 2017, he was arrested for driving drunk and crashing his car into a tree. He was arrested in 2011 on domestic violence charges after a dispute with ex-wife Nikki Williams.

Weston Cage Coppola is the only child of Nicolas Cage and Christina Fulton, who briefly dated between 1988 and 1991. The National Treasure star has two other children from separate mothers.

Nicolas Cage was born Nicolas Coppola, and he is the nephew of legendary film director Francis Ford Coppola.

Weston's lawyer told Page Six, "My client has fully cooperated with the investigation and supports any decision made by law enforcement after they independently examined the evidence and the facts. This is a criminal matter and my client is simply a victim and witness.”
