A video has been released of U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) getting pulled over by a police officer.

The video has been published by Fox 31, and it can be found here.

The incident captured in the video took place on May 12, 2024. This was the morning of Mother's Day.

The officer - a member of the Colorado State Patrol - pulled the congresswoman over for significantly exceeding the speed limit. But, what is really garnering a lot of attention is not the traffic violation, but, rather, how Boebert handled it.

Boebert's excuse

Boebert was pulled over, at around 10:25 in the morning, while driving her Mazda CX-50 westward on Colorado's Interstate 70. She was caught driving 84 miles per hour in a 65-mile-per-hour zone. In other words, she exceeded the speed limit by 19 miles per hour.

The officer's body camera footage from the incident has been released, and it shows Boebert giving the officer excuses for her traffic violation.

At one point, she claims, "I was messing with my gears and I know I ended up going like way too fast."

At another point, she reportedly told the officer that she was having trouble with her transmission. She claimed that this is why she did not realize that she was speeding.

The officer ended up issuing Boebert a $174.50 speeding ticket. But, this was not the end of the situation.

A lost check?

A report from Westword indicates that Boebert failed to pay her speeding ticket by the due date, and, as a result, she was summoned to court.

A court clerk told the outlet, "Tickets that aren't paid to the state before their twenty-day deadline, they'll get sent to the court. Her case got forwarded to the court, we opened a case, and she took a standard plea offer."

It is now being claimed that Boebert's press secretary - Drew Sexton - attempted to pay the ticket on behalf of the congresswoman by check but that the check ended up being returned resulting in the missed deadline.

This, however, has been disputed by the court clerk, who told Westword "that the congresswoman [when she spoke to the court] made no mention of a check being lost in the mail."

Boebert, herself, has not released a statement on the matter. Westword further indicates that Boebert has a history of traffic violations and that she also has a history of not paying the accompanying fines. One incident even landed her in jail, briefly.
