Video footage emerged this weekend showing police busting a high profile congresswoman for speeding. 

According to Newsweek, the footage was recorded on a bodycam in May and featured Colorado Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert.

Lawmaker caught driving 19 miles over the speed limit

In the video, a Colorado State Patrol officer pulled Boebert over after he caught her driving 84 miles per hour in a 65 mile per hour zone on Interstate 70.

The clip shows the lawmaker attempting to explain her behavior by saying, "I was messing with my gears and I know I ended up going like way too fast."

"Because you hit 90 [miles per hour] for a second, but you were on the brakes pretty quick," the Colorado State Patrol officer can be heard stating in response.

A FOX31 Denver anchor noted how Boebert told the officer that "she was having issues with her transmission, which is why she didn't realize she was speeding."

Boebert was late in paying fine

Newsweek further reported that while Boebert was issued a $174.50 speeding ticket, the lawmaker failed to pay it on time, which resulted in her being ordered to appear in Eagle County District Court on July 26.

However, Boebert ultimately paid off the ticket on July 3. A court clerk explained that Boebert took a standard plea offer, stating, "Tickets that aren't paid to the state before their twenty-day deadline, they'll get sent to the court."

Drew Sexton serves as the congresswoman's press secretary, and he told Newsweek that Boebert had previously attempted to pay the fine by sending a check to the Colorado Department Of Revenue (DOR) but it was returned.

This is not the first time Boebert has made headlines this year, as CBS News reported in January that she was relocating from Colorado's 3rd District to the state's 4th District.

"It is the right decision for me personally, and it is the right decision for those who support our conservative movement. This is the right decision for Colorado, for us," Boebert said in a statement at the time.

Colorado Public Radio reported last month that Boebert won the 4th District's Republican primary race, managing to capture 43.66% of the vote.

"2024 is when we take Colorado back. It’s when we take our nation back and we set a path on a new trajectory for conservative values, for Christian morals, that we would be a righteous nation recognized throughout the world once again," Boebert said in her victory speech.
