House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is now threatening to arrest anyone who disrupts Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's upcoming congressional address. 

This, according to the Washington Times, would include Democratic lawmakers.

One would have to think that, if a lawmaker is going to attempt to disrupt Netanuyahu's address, then it would most likely be a Democratic lawmaker, given that it is the Democratic Party that harbors the largest contingent of anti-Israel lawmakers.

Just take, for example, the so-called Squad. This entire group of far-left, "progressive" lawmakers has not hidden the fact that they are anti-Israel. Republicans, however, have no corresponding anti-Israel group in Congress.

"If anybody gets out of hand . . ."

Johnson made it clear that disrupters of Netanyahu's speech will get arrested during remarks that he recently gave at a Republican Jewish Coalition event that was held at the Republican National Convention.

"I want you to know that there’s a number of Democrats in the House who have said they’re going to boycott the event … and then some others are going to protest," Johnson said.

He added, "Listen, we’re going to have extra sergeants-at-arms on the floor, and if anybody gets out of hand, the speaker of the House will bang the gavel; we’re going to arrest people if we have to do it. We’re going to get the message out."

Indeed, there is a sizable group of congressional Democrats that has publicly stated its intention to boycott Netanyahu's congressional address. Newsweek has compiled a list that includes 58 congressional Democrats.

It is less clear if any congressional Democrats plan on causing a disruption. It certainly is not out of the realm of possibility.

Looking forward

Netanyahu is scheduled to address both chambers of Congress this week.

"Netanyahu is set to address lawmakers on July 24, his first address to US Congress since 2015, when 58 boycotted him over concerns about his opposition to then-President Barack Obama's nuclear deal with Iran," the Daily Mail reports. 

Suffice it to say that not everyone is crazy about the decision to allow Netanyahu to address Congress.

Among those who are unhappy with the decision are members of the White House.

Netanyahu's visit comes amid tensions between himself and Joe Biden. The president has supported Israel's offensive, but recently been more critical and withheld the shipment of some weapons in May. Netanyahu last week accused the Biden administration of again withholding weapons—a claim that White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre denied.
