Biden's phone call with Kamala Harris raises speculation

A bizarre phone conversation between Joe Biden and Kamala Harris has raised eyebrows.

In an odd slip of the tongue, Harris almost referred to the phone call as a "recording" before correcting herself.

"Joe, I know you're still on the rec… on the call," she said.

Biden's FAKE phone call?

Some found the moment revealing, with many asking questions about Biden's health as he remained out of the public eye.

Biden announced he would not seek another term last Sunday while he was isolating with COVID. The historic news was publicized through a letter, which raised eyebrows and concerns about his health.

Biden had not been seen in days when he called Harris Monday to offer his support for her newly launched presidential bid.

A viral video claims that Biden's call was generated in the speech synthesis software ElevenLabs. The video makes it appear that Biden's speech was "very likely" generated with AI.

ElevenLabs dismissed the viral clip as misleading. The user in the video tested a different audio sample than Biden's call to generate the outcome seen in the video.

"The user runs a different clip through our speech classifier than the phone call played in the video to create the false impression it was created on our platform. You can always run the audio through our AI Speech Classifier to check results yourself," ElevenLabs wrote on X.

White House denies rumors

After several days of absence, Biden finally appeared Tuesday, putting to rest rumors that he was gravely ill or dead. He did not formally speak to the nation about his decision to drop out until Wednesday evening.

Biden did not provide any explanation for his decision, even as he declared he would "pass the torch" to a younger generation.

The White House, already facing accusations of a cover-up, maintains that his health had no role in his decision.

“It has nothing to do with his health. The president is going to speak to this directly to the American people in prime time,” press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said.

The rise of artificial intelligence has led to concern about the potential to deceive voters with "deepfakes." Earlier this year, New Hampshire primary voters received fake robocalls from an AI mimic of Joe Biden.
