CNN Dems' have ‘irrational’ ecitement for Harris - still ‘Trump’s race to lose’
CNN reporter David Axelrod has expressed a pessimistic outlook regarding the Democrats' chances of retaining control of the White House after November.
The nomination of Vice President Kamala Harris as the candidate has done little to alleviate his anxieties, as Mediate reported.
According to statements made by Axelrod on Saturday night, the election is still likely in the grasp of former President Donald Trump, despite the fact that the Democratic Party has been revitalized as a result of the withdrawal of President Joe Biden from the campaign.
Jessica Dean, the anchor of CNN Newsroom, asked the Democratic strategist how Trump's campaign has dealt with Harris's addition to the top of the Democratic ticket.
Axelrod's Comments
“I think there’s a there’s a justifiable sense of concern in his camp that this thing could get away from him,” Axelrod said.
“It may be their race to lose but it’s a race so it could be lost, which is something they didn’t feel when they left that convention in Milwaukee.
Dean pointed out that Harris could portray herself as a prosecutor on a debate stage, in contrast to Trump, who was convicted of 34 felonies in New York earlier this year.
This would be the case if the two candidates agreed to participate in a debate.
The Polling
Even if the race is close, according to the polls, Axelrod said that Democrats should not get their hopes up too quickly because Trump is now the older candidate.
As Axelrod put it:
Look, I mean, there’s a lot of irrational exuberance on the side of on the Democratic side of the aisle right now, because there was despair for some period of time about what the November was gonna look like. Now people feel like there’s a chance.
But it’s absolutely Trump’s race to lose right now. He is ahead. and he is ahead in most of the battleground states. They’re close, they can be won by either candidate.
Axelrod ended his comments, saying, “I think it’s a wide-open race but Trump has the advantage right now and everybody should be sober about that on the Democratic side.”
Trump's on Kamala
During a recent rally, Trump told an audience in Charlotte that he “was supposed to be nice" to Harris, alluding to his message of unifying his base following the assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania.
“They say something happened to me when I got shot: I became nice,” Trump said. “If you don’t mind, I’m not going to be nice,” he added, as CNN reported.
“This November, the American people are going to tell her, ‘No thanks, Kamala. You’ve done a terrible job. You’ve been terrible at everything,’” said the former president, slamming Harris over the border and inflation.
