Democrats paint Walz as 'pragmatic Midwestern governor,' while Trump campaign say he is 'cornucopia of liberal psychosis'
Democrats have begun the process of trying to define Vice President Kamala Harris's running mate pick as a "pragmatic Midwestern governor," while the Donald Trump campaign said after Walz's selection that he is a "cornucopia of liberal psychosis."
All Democrats want to talk about regarding Walz is his sense of humor and personable character, his history as a veteran and a former schoolteacher, and his "common touch" that makes him relatable to rural America.
“Too often candidates have fallen into the trap of getting too wonky and having a 10 point policy plan that nobody wants to listen to," Former Rep. Tim Ryan said about Walz. "Tim has a way of speaking to the same values, the same goals, same strategies, but just doing it in a way that’s more ‘common touch’ and that people can understand.”
“He’s down to earth, keeps it real, and understands middle America and Congress,”Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-CA) said of Walz, though was only elected after he left the House.
One of the nicest guys
“Truly one of the nicest guys I’ve ever served with,” Pennsylvania Rep. Brendan Boyle told Semafor.
Some on both sides thought nominee Kamala Harris should have chosen Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro for her running mate because he could pull in the moderate base and could deliver Pennsylvania to Harris in the electoral college contest.
Shapiro's Jewish background and support for Israel were probably the main reason he wasn't chosen as Harris's running mate.
Trump running mate J.D. Vance said the Walz pick over Shapiro was due to anti-Semitism in the party.
“They will have not picked Shapiro frankly because of antisemitism in their own caucus, in their own party,” Vance told Hugh Hewitt. “The far-left doesn’t like the fact that he is a Jewish-American.”
"Thank you!"
Trump posted "Thank you!" on Truth Social after Harris selected Walz, seeming to say that he thought Walz would be easier to beat than Shapiro.
“Walz is a cornucopia of liberal psychosis,” a source close to Trump's campaign said of Walz. “He’s like a picnic for the Trump-Vance campaign.”
He made an executive order allowing health care workers to let aborted babies who survived the abortion die without receiving medical care, allowed rioters to run amok in the state in 2020 for days, and signed a bill giving driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, among other radical proposals.
The Trump-aligned Super PAC MAGA INC. has already sent out a press release labeling the Democratic ticket as “far-left radicals.
A statement by Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said, “Walz is obsessed with spreading California’s dangerously liberal agenda far and wide.”
