Former President Donald Trump's campaign had an unwelcomed and scary surprise over the weekend at one of its campaign headquarters.

According to Fox News, authorities are now searching for a suspect thought to be behind a Sunday burglary of a Virginia-based Trump campaign headquarters.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the break-in that took place in Ashburn, Virginia.

The location that was burglarized also serves as the headquarters of the Virginia 10th District Republican Committee. It's located in the 20000 block of Ashbrook Place.

What's going on?

Luckily for local authorities, surveillance footage caught what appears to be the suspect behind the break-in. The burglary was reported to police late Sunday evening.

Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman issued a statement explaining that break-ins at political offices are somewhat rare.

"It is rare to have the office of any political campaign or party broken into," SheriffChapman said. "We are determined to identify the suspect, investigate why it happened, and determine what may have been taken as well as what may have been left behind."

Authorities described the suspect as wearing "dark clothing, a dark cap, and a backpack." He can be seen in the footage carrying out a bag that appears to be stuffed with unknown items.

So far, authorities do not have any leads on who the suspect is despite the surveillance footage. Loudon County authorities asked for the public's help in identifying the suspect.

"We have not identified or located the individual in the photos and would appreciate any help from the public," the sheriff's department said.

Social media reacts

Social media users weighed in on the unusual burglary, offering their opinions on why it happened and who might have been behind it.

"It’s not front page news because it’s clearly the other side sending in an operative. Is this watergate 2.0?" one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Seems like a person's face like this would have been found in less than 1/2 day. Why the delay in his identity?"
