The Michelle Obama-Biden feud appears to be real

Rumors that former First Lady Michelle Obama is not a big fan of the Bidens appear to be true.

A White House insider recently told the Economic Times that Obama rebuked the Biden administration during her recent Democratic National Convention speech.

Despite once saying, "I am not interested in politics - never have been," Obama did give a speech at the convention in support of a Kamala Harris presidency.

The interesting bit is that Michelle Obama has come out with strong support of Harris, while her support of President Joe Biden has been lackluster, to say the least.

Background

Back in June 2024, Axios put out a report suggesting that there is a bit of a feud between Michelle Obama and the Bidens.

Per the outlet:

Former First Lady Michelle Obama privately has expressed frustration over how the Biden family largely exiled her close friend Kathleen Buhle after Buhle's messy divorce from Hunter Biden, two people familiar with the relationship told Axios.

The outlet goes on to claim, based on its sources, that this is why Michelle Obama - in contrast to her husband, former President Barack Obama - had not been supportive of BIden's re-election.

"Michelle Obama also was initially reluctant to campaign for Biden after he became the Democratic nominee in 2020, people familiar with the situation told Axios," the outlet reported.

The Bidens, for their part, claimed that their relationship with the Obamas is "strong."

The latest

Now, Obama, with her convention speech, has given more credence to the rumor that she is not happy with the Bidens.

The Economic Times reports:

Michelle Obama dropped in a few interesting statements during her speech at the recently concluded Democratic National Convention 2024, and although she spoke highly of Democrat's Presidential candidate Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, she was not very positive with her reactions around the current Biden administration in the White House, or so it seemed, as per a White House aide.

The aide told the outlet that Obama took a "dig" at Biden in her speech.

The outlet continues:

The aide has claimed . . . there was a touch of a dig at the current White House regime. "Hope is making a comeback" was the primary phrase that caught the attention of political analysts, and others, who were quick to grab this point as this statement could generally have been avoided since the currently leadership is comprised of the Democrats, and this statement could weaken the party's resolve.

The question is why would we need hope after four years of the Biden administration if Biden was such a good president? The answer would appear to be that Obama does not think Biden has done a good job, which, of course, is true, but surprising to hear from an Obama.
