Musk rails against Brazilian judge's decision to suspend X in Brazil
Elon Musk has been seriously criticizing the Brazilian judge who has suspended the Brazilian people's use of Musk's social media platform, X.
The Brazilian judge who did so, according to CNBC, is Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
First, we'll take a look at the judge's ruling.
Then, we'll see how Musk has responded to it.
The suspension
It was on Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, that the Brazilian Supreme Court released a statement suspending X. The statement can be found in its entirety here.
The court, in part, wrote:
Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), determined on Friday (30) the immediate and complete suspension of the operation of X, formerly Twitter, throughout the national territory until the Court's judicial decisions are complied with and the fines applied are paid. The order will also be valid until the appointment of a representative of the company in the country.
CNBC provides the relevant background. The outlet reports:
Brazil's supreme court announced on Wednesday that Musk and X had 24 hours to either appoint a legal representative for its business there or face a "penalty of suspension of activities" nationwide. The deadline passed Thursday evening.
Musk and X, however, refused to comply. In fact, X's global government affairs unit said it "would not comply" in a statement that it released.
Soon, we expect Judge Alexandre de Moraes will order X to be shut down in Brazil – simply because we would not comply with his illegal orders to censor his political opponents. These enemies include a duly elected Senator and a 16-year-old girl, among others.
When we attempted…

Musk responds
Musk, among many others, has been criticizing de Moraes for the decision to suspend X.
In one statement, for example, Musk wrote:
I keep telling people that this guy @alexandre is the dictator of Brazil, NOT a judge. He just wears that as a costume. He has supreme executive, judicial and legislative power, aka dictator. The cloak he wears is to trick fools in the West into thinking that he’s a judge.
In another, Musk directed people to the "Alexandre Files" X account, which was set up by X to expose the "crimes" that de Moraes has committed.
Musk wrote:
Today, we launch the daily data dump on the crimes – under *Brazilian* law – that fake “judge” @alexandre has committed! He can block this platform in Brazil, but he can’t stop the whole world from knowing his illegal, shameful & hypocritical deeds. Karma’s a b*tch bro.
De Moraes has not responded to Musk's criticisms.
