Republican lawmaker Joe Wilson hospitalized
South Carolina Republican lawmaker Joe Wilson was hospitalized after collapsing at an event in Washington D.C.
Wilson, 77, was rushed to a hospital after experiencing "stroke-like" symptoms, his son, South Carolina attorney general Alan Wilson, said.
"I just spoke to my mom who is currently at the hospital with my father," Alan Wilson said. "Doctors have confirmed to us that he has experienced stroke-like symptoms. I was able to speak with him moments ago and I am incredibly thankful that he is stable and being monitored by medical professionals."

Wilson was at a Ukrainian Independence Day celebration when he fell on Tuesday. The Republican had been voting and joking with reporters earlier in the day.
Congress returned to work Monday after a month-long break. Wilson, a senior member on the Foreign Affairs Committee, spent the summer recess traveling Europe, the Philippines and Australia, and meeting with NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg.
The Charleston native has represented South Carolina’s 2nd district since 2001.
“Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) was taken ill and is being evaluated at a local hospital in Washington, DC," a message from his office said.
Wilson is seeking re-election this fall. His Democratic challenger, David Robinson II, sent his well wishes.
"We do wish him well, and well wishes for a speedy recovery," Robinson said.
Wilson's fellow South Carolina Republicans also sent their prayers.
"Praying for a full and speedy recovery for my friend,” Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) said.
“Prayers up for Congressman Wilson and his family tonight,” Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) wrote. “Have spoken to the family and I ask we all send a positive vibe and a prayer his way tonight and may he recover as fast as humanly possible.”
"You lie!"
In 2009, Wilson attracted notoriety for shouting “you lie!” at President Obama during a joint session of Congress. Obama had claimed that illegal immigrants would not be entitled to healthcare benefits under Obamacare.
Wilson was formally rebuked by the House and later apologized, but over the years the Republican's remark has proven prescient.
Under new Biden administration regulations, beneficiaries of Obama’s DACA program, also known as Dreamers, will become eligible for Obamacare coverage in November. Immigrants with “temporary protected status” are also eligible.
