Fans of the NBC drama "Chicago Med" were heartbroken two years ago when star Marlyne Barrett was diagnosed with cancer.

This week saw the television actress provide some painful details concerning her battle against the disease.

"Huge" mass discovered on Barrett's left ovary

During an interview with People magazine that was published this week, Barrett spoke of being afflicted by a "huge" cancerous mass.

"It started on the left ovary and took over and went all the way almost to the other. I looked like I had a full-grown fetus inside of me," she stated.

Barrett also spoke of the role that acting played during a difficult time in her life, saying, "I don't think that people realize mobility means life."

"So as long as I was able to move, work, laugh at everybody's bad jokes. People were treating me like I was normal, even when my eyebrows were no longer present. It made the time fun, not necessarily having to think about [my health] all the time," she observed.

Warm words of praise for television production company

The actress also voiced words of praise for Wolf Entertainment, the company that produces "Chicago Med," for "creating a system of care."

"I think the initial phone calls with production and the studio to get greenlit to work were some of the most special phone calls that I've ever made in my life," Barrett asserted.

"It wasn't just, "Hey Marlyne, can you work?' The question was, 'How do we support you in this?' Some of the tenderest questions that I've ever been asked by a corporation," she declared.
