Independent Nebraska Senate candidate Dan Osborn's chances at being elected dropped significantly this week after he was embroiled in a developing scandal.

According to the Daily Mail, just weeks before Election Day, Osborn was accused of being a member of Ashley Madison, a website catered to married people who prefer to cheat on their spouses.

An email "directly linked" to Osborn was discovered as being registered on the site. Osborn has been married to his wife for 22 years and has three children.

The revelation came as part of a massive data hack the website experienced in 2015. The email and his birthdate matched the Senate candidate, though he denies ever being a member.

What's going on?

Aside from the Ashley Madison allegations, Osborn has also been accused of "liking" various porn-related images on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The Daily Mail, in an exclusive report, indicated that it had "screenshots" as proof of Osborn's social media activity, but declined to publish them due to the graphic nature of the images.

The outlet noted:

The screenshots - too graphic to be posted in full - in addition to the Ashley Madison account could create rocky campaign conditions for the Independent as he has recently gained the edge over his opponent.

Just last week, a SurveyUSA poll found Osborn is ahead of GOP incumbent Sen. Deb Fischer by one point.

It was noted that Osborn's campaign hasn't explained why the candidate's email was linked to the Ashley Madison account, but the outlet was careful to add that the inclusion of his email on the site doesn't necessarily mean he actually used the site.

While his campaign confirmed that Osborn had access to the X account that was found to have liked several pornographic images, the campaign denied that it was Osborn who initiated the actions.

"The account in question was the account of the BCTGM 50G Union President. Multiple people had access to this account and had the ability to like Tweets. Dan did not like these tweets," a campaign spokesperson said.

"Shocking" report

Mike Berg, Communications Director for the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), weighed in on the exclusive report.

"This reporting is shocking," he said, adding, "Dan Osborn is married with kids, so of course he doesn't want to admit that he made an online profile to cheat on his wife or that he spends his free time on social media liking hardcore gay porn."

Berg added, "I'm praying for Dan Osborn's family."

" A free people [claim] their rights, as derived from the laws of nature."
