Hunter Biden has suffered a number of legal setbacks in recent months, with the latest coming last month when he pleaded guilty to nine federal tax charges.

However, the president's son managed to score a courtroom victory this week when a judge dismissed a civil case that had been filed against him.

Computer repair shop owner sued for defamation

According to The Hill, the defamation lawsuit was brought by John Paul Mac Isaac, who owns a computer repair shop in Wilmington, Delaware. Biden brought a laptop for Isaac to fix but never returned for it or paid his bill, after which Isaac took ownership of the electronic device.

The laptop was found to contain widespread evidence of criminal behavior, including drug use and illegal gun possession as well as images that showed Biden cavorting with prostitutes.

Those facts were reported by the New York Post in the fall of 2020, something which quickly became an issue in that year's presidential election.

Although 51 former intelligence officials signed an open letter stating that the laptop bore "the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation," its authenticity was later verified by mainstream media outlets.

Repair shop owner will appeal ruling

In his lawsuit, Isaac alleged that the president's son had defamed him by suggesting that he had either stolen the laptop or was part of a Russian conspiracy.

However, Biden's legal team countered that their client could not be held liable as he never identified the plaintiff by name, an argument with which Superior Court Judge Robert Robinson Jr. agreed.

Ronald Poliquin is Issac's attorney and he objected to Robinson's ruling, telling the Associated Press that an appeal will be pursued.

"Hunter Biden went on national TV and gaslighted the American public by indicating John Paul Mac Isaac was part of a Russian hoax when he knew it to be false," Poliquin was quoted as saying.

"As the FBI has confirmed, Biden dropped off his laptop at the Mac Shop. Hunter Biden lied and needs to be held accountable," the lawyer went on to add.

Biden to be sentenced in December

For his part, Biden is scheduled to be sentenced in December after a federal jury convicted him earlier this year on multiple gun charges.

Biden also released a statement last month explaining that he pleaded guilty to tax charges so as to prevent his family from having to endure another trial.

"I went to trial in Delaware not realizing the anguish it would cause my family, and I will not put them through it again," Fox News quoted him as saying.
