Two individuals have been arrested in relation to the recent attack on David Paterson, the former governor of New York.

USA Today reports that the New York Police Department (NYPD) made the arrests earlier this week.

To the surprise of many, the two individuals who were arrested were New York City employees.

First, we'll take a look at what happened - including how Paterson ended up in the hospital - and then we'll look at the arrests.

Background

Paterson and his stepson were both attacked while they were walking their dog.

The New York Post reported:

Paterson, 70, who is legally blind, and his wife’s son, Anthony Chester Sliwa, were taking the family dog Bella for her nightly walk Friday when they encountered three youngsters, possibly teens, and an adult as the kids were climbing a fire escape on Second Avenue near East 96th Street shortly before 9 p.m., according to the elder Sliwa.

It was after asking them to get down that Paterson and his stepson were attacked. Both individuals were taken to the hospital where they were treated for their injuries, and both individuals continue to recover.

A video has since been released of the incident. Take a look:

Several arrests have now been made in the case.

USA Today reports:

The New York Police Department previously reported officers arrested a 12-year-old boy on a second-degree gang assault charge and a 13-year-old boy on a third-degree gang assault charge in the attack on the former governor, 70, who is legally blind, and his stepson Anthony Sliwa, 20.

Now, two more arrests have been made.

The outlet, in its report, continues:

Two others, Travor Nurse, 40, and Diamond Minter, 34, were taken into custody and charged with gang assault, police told USA TODAY on Tuesday. Both work for the NYC Housing Authority and police said on Tuesday they were both off duty at the time of the attack. Their employment, bond, and attorney status were not immediately known Tuesday.

Police have yet to confirm whether these are now all of the suspects that were involved in the attack on Paterson.
