California Dems are planning to do a post-election gas price hike
Democrats in the state of California are planning to raise the price of gasoline following the 2024 presidential election.
Fox News reports that the move is being led by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), which is composed of individuals selected by California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D).
Newsom, of course, is a top ally of Vice President Kamala Harris, and, as such, he has been working to help get her elected in the 2024 presidential election.
This move, however, might cause some people to think twice about voting for Harris, and instead switch to voting for Harris's rival, former President Donald Trump.
The details
According to Fox, CARB's proposal could raise gas prices in the state of California by as much as 47 cents per gallon in the next year alone.
Per the outlet:
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) . . . is scheduled to vote just days after the election on a new proposal that would lower carbon emissions faster, but increase the cost of petroleum refineries.
An important thing to note about CARB is that it has the authority to make this move, provided the board members agree to proceed with the proposal, without the confirmation of California's legislature.
Whether or not CARB will go through with the proposal is the big question at the moment. There is little doubt that the board wants to. The problem, however, is the public.
"CARB initially estimated a 47-cent-per-gallon increase in gas prices for public comment, but retracted the estimate after receiving massive backlash," Fox reports.
Republicans sound the alarm
California Republicans are currently warning the people of California about this proposal.
State Sen. Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh recently said:
It's a big, big deal, and so people deserve to know and have full transparency by these boards, what it is that they're doing and the impact that it will have on their daily life. So, we talk about the cost of living in California. We talk about the top concerns in California is the cost of living, and when it comes to the impact of fuels, this would be a direct ripple effect on increasing the cost of living in California. People need a break.
One thing to keep in mind is that gas prices in California are already higher, on average, than anywhere else. The state is about $1.50 more per gallon than the national average.
This is one big reason to vote for Trump in the coming election.
You, the reader, will likely remember that gas prices were low under Trump, and the former president is promising to do what he can to get them back where they were when he was president, if elected.
