Jill Biden says it was 'right call' for husband to end his campaign
As a diminished, dejected Joe Biden faces the end of his single term as president, his wife Jill seems to be the one in authority.
Speaking on Joe's behalf, Jill Biden said it was "the right call" for him to forgo a second term and pass the torch to Kamala Harris.
"It’s time for something new," she told ABC News' Deborah Roberts. "It was the right call."
Jill Biden takes control
Jill Biden was singing a different tune in the aftermath of her husband's debate disaster back in June. Biden resisted pressure to step aside as his wife declared, "We will not let those 90 minutes define the four years he’s been president.”
Her husband didn't go quietly, telling George Stephanopoulos that only God could convince him to call it quits. But weeks later, he had acquiesced to Nancy Pelosi's (D-CA) demands to drop out.
Biden endorsed Kamala Harris, who quickly rose to the top of the Democratic ticket.
Despite lingering tensions behind the scenes, Jill Biden and her husband have put on a united front with Harris in the home stretch before Election Day.
Jill Biden is, however begrudgingly, stumping for Harris in battleground states as Joe Biden hides himself from voters, part of a calculated strategy to downplay Harris' role as vice president in a failed administration.
"There's a lot of energy out there," Jill Biden said. "Kamala Harris is going to win this, and it's going to be just another chapter for the White House."
Biden beaten down
Biden has continued to show hints of remorse for his decision, telling The View last month that he would have beaten Donald Trump if he stayed in.
Ironically, some have begun to wonder if Biden was, indeed, the better candidate after all as Harris loses momentum to Trump in the last days before the election.
The Biden family may feel vindicated if Harris loses, but the family is keeping any negativity towards her private.
Joe Biden has been thoroughly beaten into submission, pledging Harris will "cut her own path" as he shelters from a nation eager to forget his time in office.
"I've had such a great four years," Jill Biden said. "And Joe and I, I mean really it has been the honor of our lives. It'll be tough to maybe step away from it, but we're starting a new chapter of our lives. A new journey."
