Bill Clinton weirdly complimented Arizona GOP Senate nominee Kari Lake as 'physically attractive'

Former Democratic President Bill Clinton has a well-earned reputation as a womanizer, which he proved once again on Thursday with a dubious critique of Arizona Republican Senate nominee Kari Lake.

While campaigning in Arizona on behalf of Vice President Kamala Harris and Democratic Senate nominee Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), Clinton said Gallego's opponent Lake was "physically attractive" but unserious about politics, the Daily Caller reported.

Lake later responded with biting humor that called out the former president for his scandalous history with women and also took a shot at his wife, failed 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Clinton said Lake is "physically attractive"

On Thursday, former President Clinton was in Arizona to support the Democrats' Harris-Walz ticket along with Rep. Gallego, who is running to replace outgoing Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ), who declined to run for re-election.

In attempting to contrast Gallego with his opponent Lake, Clinton said, "You got a person that grew up under sometimes challenging circumstances, who made something of his life, running against someone who is physically attractive, but believes that politics is a performance art."

Clinton's support for Gallego over Lake is understandable but may also be unnecessary, as polls show the Democratic congressman leading his Republican opponent by an average of around six points for the open Senate seat.

Lake responds: "Doesn't he like interns?"

Later, during an appearance at an Arizona rally for former President Donald Trump, Lake responded to Clinton's "compliment" about her being "physically attractive" and shared with the crowd, "First of all, as a middle-aged woman, I'm flattered. I'm flattered, ok. I don't get those kind of compliments every day. Two, I thought I was a little too old for him -- doesn't he like interns?"

She went on to note that she was "happily married" to her husband Jeff, then added with an air of seriousness, "Nobody in their right mind wants to cross Hillary Clinton. It's just dangerous."

Clinton admits Harris is "extremely vulnerable"

Former President Clinton was in Arizona first and foremost to support VP Harris's presidential bid, but may have done more harm than good with a surprisingly honest assessment of her struggling candidacy that was mixed in with criticism of former President Trump's supporters.

He remarked that people were acting as though Harris "just showed up" on the political scene and said, "I mean, she was there as vice president, and what they think of her largely depends on what they think of President Biden. But she is extremely vulnerable, more vulnerable than she deserves to be, through crazy attacks."

Clinton is correct that Harris is "vulnerable," particularly in Arizona, where RealClearPolling's average shows that Trump is leading his Democratic opponent by 1.5 points in the critical battleground state.

But it isn't just Arizona that Harris is in danger of losing, as RCP has Trump holding marginal leads over her in all of the rest of the most important swing states where elections are typically decided, including Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Nor is the news any better for Harris nationally, as RCP's average suggests that she is now in danger of potentially losing the popular vote, given that she and Trump are essentially tied, which is huge considering that at this same point in 2020 and 2016, Trump was trailing President Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton by 8.0 and 5.1 points, respectively, and Trump significantly overperformed the polls in both instances.
