Steve Bannon released from prison - Ready to Move MAGA Forward
Joe Biden was the presumptive Democratic nominee for president the last time Steve Bannon was a free man, but now that he's again out in the world, he's ready to help change it.
On Tuesday morning, Bannon, a right-wing podcast host and former official of the Donald Trump campaign, was released from federal Bureau of Prisons custody, as POLITICO reported.
This comes as voters will have exactly one week to decide between his former employer and Vice President Kamala Harris on Election Day.
Bannon's discharge was verified by Randilee Giamusso, a spokesperson for the Bureau of Prisons and he resumed conducting his "War Room" podcast later in the morning on Tuesday.
Bannon's Remarks
"Nancy Pelosi sent me to federal prison as a political prisoner," Bannon said getting back to broadcasting his show, saying Democrats want "to tamp down the power of this show and to break me."
"Not only didn't it break me, it empowered me," he said.
Bannon informed reporters later that day that he had talked with Trump subsequent to his release. He declined to provide any further information, stating, "We've had a chat."
The Prison Time
Bannon was sentenced to four months in prison in 2022 for his refusal to comply with subpoenas issued by the House Jan. 6 committee.
However, he was able to postpone the imposition of the sentence for nearly two years while pursuing appeals. In June, U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols, who is himself a Trump appointee, issued an order requiring Bannon to report to prison by July 1.
In July 2022, Bannon was found guilty of two counts of contempt of Congress for his refusal to comply with subpoenas issued by the House committee that was investigating the fatal Capitol attack that was prompted by Trump's false statements regarding the 2020 election.
“The defendant chose allegiance to Donald Trump over compliance with the law,” a Justice Department prosecutor siad during the trial adding that Bannon “had contempt for Congress,” when he failed to appear.
Bannon's Reaction to the Sentence
He declared that he was "proud" to be sent to prison prior to commencing his sentence, and he informed NBC News that the Democrats had "no chance" of winning the upcoming election unless they were "stealing it."
He encouraged his audience to vote on Tuesday, asserting that "everything is coming to fruition."
"We have to put this beyond their ability to steal it," Bannon said. "We have to crush them at the ballot box."
