'Squad' member refuses to endorse Harris
Vice President Kamala Harris has apparently lost the support of at least one member of the so-called "squad," that group of far-left representatives.
This, according to Fox News, can be inferred from the fact that the "squad" member - namely, U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) - refused to endorse Harris at a recent rally.
This may not seem like that big of a deal, but it very well could be.
Read on to see why.
Here is what happened:
The incident, according to Fox, occurred at a rally that took place in Detroit, Michigan, on Friday.
Per the outlet:
Tlaib appeared alongside fellow "squad" member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and members of the United Auto Workers union. While Ocasio-Cortez and other speakers threw their support behind Harris, Tlaib only urged Michiganders to get out and vote and didn't mention Harris, according to the Detroit News.
The outlet goes on to quote Tlaib.
She said:
Don’t underestimate the power you all have. More than those ads, those lawn signs, those billboards, you all have more power to turn out people that understand we’ve got to fight back against corporate greed in our country. … We’ve got to make sure that the nonpartisan part of the ballot gets filled in.
This is a pretty big snub, but it was not that unexpected.
Here's what is going on:
Tlaib is part of the pro-Palestinian faction of the Democratic Party, and, as such, she agrees with those who claim that Harris has not gone far enough in condemning Israel as the country has gone on the offensive against terrorist groups in the region.
What makes this situation so unusual is that Harris has not been pro-Israel. In fact, she has been anything but pro-Israel. Yet, she has failed to get the approval of the likes of Tlaib. Harris, in recent days, has had multiple campaign rallies interrupted by individuals who share Tlaib's sentiment.
At first glance, this may not seem like that big of a deal, but it just might be - it may even be enough to preclude Harris from winning the 2024 presidential election.
The fact of the matter is that swing states - such as Tlaib's Michigan - are going to determine the outcome of the 2024 election, and some of these swing states have large pro-Palestinian populations.
No one is saying that these populations are going to vote for Harris's rival, former President Donald Trump, but they just might abstain from voting for Harris - and this, in itself, could be the end of Harris's presidential hopes.
