British comedy fans were saddened this past weekend to learn that Scotland's Janey Godley had passed away.

According to the BBC, the 63-year-old entertainer died on Saturday following a years-long battle against ovarian cancer.

Godley's daughter say her mother "went peacefully"

Ashley Storrie is Godley's daughter, and she addressed her mother's passing in a social media video which was addressed to the late comedian's "found family."

"I wanted to tell you face to face because it felt very much what she would have wanted," Storrie was quoted as telling her mother's fans.

"She went peacefully and I want to say a big thank you to all the staff at the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice," Storrie made a point of explaining.

"Thank you so much for being there and for making a very, very scary moment peaceful and a nice transition," she continued.

"I believe in my heart of hearts that she felt every bit of love you sent to her," Storrie declared before adding, "I think it kept her going, genuinely we got her longer because of all the support and the love in the world."

former Scottish first minister calls Godley's death "heartbreaking"

News of Godley passing was met with tributes on social media, including from former Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, someone whom the comedian often did impressions of.

"Janey Godley truly was a force of nature, and one of the funniest people I have ever known," the former first minister stressed, adding that her death was "heartbreaking."

"I was able to visit her in the hospice a couple of weeks ago and though she was fragile, she still had me in stitches," Sturgeon added.

Manager says Godley will be "hugely missed"

Chris David worked as Godley's manager, and he spoke up as well, stating that she will be "hugely missed by her family, friends and her many fans."

He predicted that Godley "will be remembered for her legendary voiceovers of Nicola Sturgeon during the pandemic, her hilarious and outspoken comedy, but most of all for just being 'Janey.'"

The BBC recalled how Godley was first diagnosed with cancer in 2021 and appeared to go into remission before coming back the following year.
