DNC chair announces he'll step down in wake of Harris' defeat
In the wake of Vice President Kamala Harris getting crushed in the 2024 election by President-Elect Donald Trump, the Democratic Party is seemingly in total chaos.
According to the Daily Mail, Chair of the Democratic National Committee Jaime Harrison revealed this week that he's done leading the DNC for the Democrats come next election.
It was noted that Harrison made his announcement prior to Harris' shocking defeat on Tuesday evening.
Harrison announced that he would hold an all-staff meeting this week to make the announcement formal and decide on when a leadership vote would take place so the party can choose a successor.
What's going on?
Harrison was brutally criticized for his strong backing of President Joe Biden and his insistence that he stayed in the race before Harris ultimately replaced him in the final, three-month stretch before Election Day.
Harrison had made bold predictions about the outcome of the race earlier this week, saying he believed Democrats would hold the White House and a majority in the Senate during an MSNBC interview.
As we all now know, none of that happened, thankfully.
Harrison, a staunch supporter of President Biden, was angered this week as scores of high-profile Democrats, including Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, kicked off the blame game for why Harris lost so badly to Trump.
According to The Hill, Harrison responded bluntly to Sanders blaming Biden for Harris' loss, calling his accusations "straight up bulls**t."
"Biden was the most-pro worker President of my life time- saved Union pensions, created millions of good paying jobs and even marched in a picket line and some of MVP’s plans would have fundamentally transformed the quality of life and closed the racial wealth gap for working people across this country,” he wrote in an X post defending Biden.
He added, "From the child tax credits, to 25k for a down payment for a house to Medicare covering the cost of senior health care in their homes. There are a lot of post election takes and this one ain’t a good one."
What did Sanders say?
Like many Democrats, Sanders blamed the Biden administration for not paying more attention to working-class Americans, which is what triggered Harrison's aforementioned responded.
"It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them,” Sanders said.
Democrats will be playing the blame game for months to come as President-elect Trump straightens out their mess.
