Harris concedes race to Trump, says she'll work to 'protect' America from his presidency
It took her long enough, but Vice President Kamala Harris finally conceded to President-elect Donald Trump after he made one of the greatest political comebacks in modern history.
According to Fox News, during her concession speech, Harris took several subtle jabs at Trump, noting that she'll work to "protect the United States from the "impacts" of a Trump presidency, whatever that means.
Fox News obtained a letter from campaign manager Jen O'Malley Dillon that confirmed Harris had called Trump after the election "to ensure a peaceful transfer of power, unlike what we saw in 2020."
In the letter, the Harris campaign thanked all of their staffers for their hard work in getting the campaign together on such short notice before the election.
The letter
Dillon held nothing back as she praised the Harris campaign volunteers and staffers for doing what they could to beat Trump, which ultimately didn't work out very well.
"You stared down unprecedented headwinds and obstacles that were largely out of our control. We knew this would be a margin of error race, and it was. And, your work mattered: the whole country moved to the right, but compared to the rest of the country, the battleground states saw the least amount of movement in his direction," Dillon wrote.
She added, "It was closest in the places we competed. That speaks to both the work you did, and the scale of the challenge we ultimately couldn’t surmount."
That's when she needlessly slipped in the part about protecting America from Trump's presidency.
I’ll leave you with this: losing is unfathomably painful. It is hard. This will take a long time to process. But the work of protecting America from the impacts of a Trump Presidency starts now."
Dillon added the obligatory line about continuing to "fight."
"I know the Vice President isn’t finished in this fight, and I know the very people on this email are also going to be leaders in this collective mission. View this as the beginning, not the end. It will be hard work. But as the boss says: hard work is good work. And I look forward to standing beside you."
Trump campaign responds
"President Donald J. Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris spoke by phone earlier today where she congratulated him on his historic victory," said Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung.
"President Trump acknowledged Vice President Harris on her strength, professionalism, and tenacity throughout the campaign, and both leaders agreed on the importance of unifying the country."
Trump will reportedly also soon have lunch with President Biden to talk about the transition of power.
