This week saw President-elect Donald Trump make history by becoming the first Republican presidential candidate to win the popular vote in two decades.

Trump quickly followed his victory with another historic move by confirming that campaign manager Susie Wiles will be the first woman to serve as White House chief of staff. 

Trump praises Wiles for being "universally admired and respected"

According to Breitbart, Trump made the announcement about Wiles' new role in a statement he put out on Thursday

"Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history, and was an integral part of both my 2016 and 2020 successful campaigns," the president-elect was quoted as saying.

"Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected. Susie will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again," he stressed.

"It is a well deserved honor to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history," Trump continued before adding that he has "no doubt" Wiles "will make our country proud."

Breitbart noted that Trump has praised Wiles in the past, recently boasting how she is a cool figure who "likes to stay in the background."

J.D. Vance calls Wiles "a huge asset to President Trump"

Meanwhile, Trump's selection of Wiles was hailed by Vice President-elect J.D. Vance in a social media post as being "great news."

Vance went on to say Wiles has been "a huge asset to President Trump on the campaign and will be a huge asset in the White House." He further described her as being "just a really good person."

Wiles' career goes back to the Regan administration

Politico heralded Wiles as "a Washington outsider" who "is about to be the most powerful woman in" in America's capital city.

The website explained that her political career stretches back four decades and included a stint spent working in President Ronald Reagan's Department of Labor.

Wiles has also taken the helm on a number of electoral campaigns, including that of Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis' in 2018.
