The Biden blame game continues as Pelosi bemoaned the lack of an open primary

President Joe Biden is being partially blamed by Representative Nancy Pelosi for the victory of President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday.

Pelosi suggested in an interview with the New York Times that Biden should have withdrawn his presidential candidacy earlier and allocated time for an open primary, as The New York Times reported.

This summer, the Democratic political colossus was regarded as a crucial component of the pressure campaign to remove Biden.

"Had the president gotten out sooner, there may have been other candidates in the race," Pelosi told the Times on Thursday.

More From Pelosi

Rather than the quick and unfettered acceptance of Vice President Kamala Harris as the nominee, she expressed her hope that his departure would lead to an open primary.

"The anticipation was that, if the president were to step aside, that there would be an open primary," Pelosi said in the interview, which will be published in its entirety on Saturday.

Pelosi stated that Harris would have likely performed well in the primary; however, Biden's actions rendered a genuine contest for the nomination virtually impossible. Although some Democrats proposed a late primary, the concept failed to garner traction.

On Harris

"Because the president endorsed Kamala Harris immediately, that really made it almost impossible to have a primary at that time. If it had been much earlier, it would have been different," Pelosi said in the interview.

Biden endorsed Harris in less than an hour after withdrawing.

Numerous Democrats are attributing Harris' extraordinary defeat on Tuesday to Biden, asserting that she was unable to circumvent his dismal approval rating and the public's perception that he had mismanaged the economy.

Harris occasionally failed to distinguish herself from her superior; when asked in an interview what she would do differently from the president, she responded, "There is not a thing that comes to mind."

Previous Precarious Praise

Pelosi has long voiced her displeasure with Biden's political operation, but she was cautious to commend his administration and legislative achievements during her interview with the Times.

In August, she informed reporters at the Democratic National Convention that she had no regrets about her involvement in convincing Biden to withdraw from the campaign, stating that "the country is very happy."

Pelosi was re-elected as the representative for California for a 20th term on Tuesday, as Democrats nationwide took hits.
