Trump to appoint acting ICE Director Thom Homan as border czar
Prior to his victory last week, President-elect Donald Trump campaigned on a pledge to end the crisis along America's southern border.
Trump confirmed this past weekend that he has found a cabinet member who will fulfill that promise.
Tom Homan will serve as border czar
According to Fox News, Trump revealed in a social media post on Sunday that former acting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Thomas Homan has agreed to serve as his border czar.
"I've known Tom for a long time, and there is nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders," the soon-to-be president wrote.
"Likewise, Tom Homan will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin," he continued, adding, "Congratulations to Tom. I have no doubt he will do a fantastic, and long awaited for, job."
Trump went on to explain that Homan duties will not only concern America's border with Mexico but will also encompass "the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security."
The president-elect stressed that he has "known Tom for a long time" and insisted that "there is nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders."
Criminals and national security risks will be prioritized
For his part, Homan said during an interview with Fox Business that he is planning to oversee a "humane operation" aimed at dealing with those who have entered the country illegally.
"It's going to be a well-targeted, planned operation conducted by the men of ICE. The men and women of ICE do this daily. They're good at it," Homan stated.
He also explained to "Sunday Morning Futures" host Maria Bartiromo that agents will prioritize the removal of those who have criminal records or pose national security concerns.
What's more, Homan also had a blunt message for officials in Democratic states, saying, "If they're not willing to help, then get the hell out of the way because ICE is going to do their job."
Spokeswoman says Trump received "a resounding mandate"
Trump-Vance transition spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt took a similar stance as well, telling Bartiromo that such figures should "look at how the American people voted in this election."
"They have given President Trump a resounding mandate to deliver on the promises that he made on the campaign trail," she said.
"If you look at some of the bluest states in this country, New York and California, for example, those were some of the states with the largest shifts towards President Trump," Leavitt pointed out.
