Linda McMahon, the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) co-founder who was recently selected by President-elect Donald Trump as his Education Secretary, shared bombshell news this week regarding her marriage to husband and WWE legend Vince McMahon.

According to the Daily Mail, Linda and Vince will be parting ways, making their separation official.

The announcement from Linda McMahon came just 24 hours after Trump named her to lead his Education Department.

The two had been married for a staggering 58 years before calling it quits.

What's going on?

The news of their separation was confirmed by Linda McMahon's attorney, Laura Brevetti.

The Daily Mail recounted how and when the two met in 1966:

After meeting as teenagers, Linda dated Vince McMahon while the pair were in high school - as she attended Havelock High School in North Carolina while he attended Fishburne Military School in Virginia.

In 1966, at the age of just 17 after graduating high school, Linda would marry Vince McMahon who was himself only 21 years old at the time.

The two had reportedly legally separated two years ago, and until recently, haven't publicly commented on their marital situation. It remains unclear whether or not the two have officially divorced.

Linda McMahon, in the wake of being selected to serve in Trump's Cabinet, released a statement on her X account thanking the president-elect for choosing her for the job.

"Thank you Mr. President for your trust in me to serve as Secretary of Education and I am hopeful of Senate confirmation. I am deeply honored and humbled for this opportunity and I am committed to working tirelessly to ensure every student has access to a quality education," she wrote.

She added, "I’ve witnessed the transformative power of education, both in the classroom and also in apprenticeship programs. All students should be equipped with the necessary skills to prepare them for a successful future."

Social media reacts

Many users across social media reacted to the news of Linda McMahon being chosen to lead the Education Department, with many users ultimately hoping that she would abolish the department completely.

"Looking forward to you dismantling the department of education and helping states take back over the education of their children," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "How long until we abolish the department?"

Only time will tell if she eventually abolishes the department. Many believe it's a strong possibility that's been hinted at by Trump in the past.
