President-elect Donald Trump's incredible victory earlier this month has shaken many different industries, especially the news media, and especially the establishment news media.

According to the New York Post, the Washington Post, a far left-leaning publication attempting to change that perception, shocked the industry after it was revealed that politics editor Dan Eggen was "removed" from his position.

Just two years ago, Eggen was named the publication's senior politics editor.

Eggen, a veteran in the political journalism world, said he was "crushed" by the newspaper's decision to let him go and didn't offer much in the way of details as to why he's no longer in his coveted position.

What's going on?

An email obtained by a source indicated that Eggen was nothing less than shocked at the notice that he would be removed from his position by the end of the year.

"I struggled with how to write this message since there is an element of begging to it that is not particularly attractive. But what the hey: I was informed Monday that I will be removed as senior politics editor at the end of the year. I will leave it to others to explain why," he wrote.

It wasn't clear whether or not he would remain with WaPo, and when contacted by the New York Post, WaPo said it doesn't comment on personnel matters to the press.

The New York Post noted:

At the time of his promotion in 2022, Eggen had worked on the Washington Post’s politics desk for over a decade and had “established himself as one of our sharpest and most agile editors, elevating our daily report by driving scoops and accountability reporting on some of journalism’s most competitive beats,” the paper said.

Some have speculated that the decision could be part of future decisions by the paper's owner, Jeff Bezos, as he attempts to erase the outlet's reputation as a far-left publication.

Many shakeups

The Washington Post has had an interesting few months, starting when Bezos reportedly gave the order to halt any presidential endorsements, which undoubtedly would have gone in Vice President Kamala Harris' favor.

Bezos went on record to say that he's trying to change the perception of the paper, which sparked major internal backlash.

Several employees resigned as a result of that decision, and the paper lost a staggering 10% of its subscribers due to a boycott.

Obviously, money isn't the issue for Bezos, and he appears to be keeping true to his vow to shake things up, including his promise to hire more conservative writers.
