Matt Gaetz says he will not return to Congress next year
Republican Matt Gaetz was never charged with any wrongdoing, but he didn't want to be a distraction for Donald Trump's administration. As a result, Gaetz has officially withdrawn from consideration to be Trump's new attorney general.
However, that's not the only major development surrounding Gaetz' political career.
Despite not taking a position in Trump's cabinet, Gaetz recently surprised America by saying that he will NOT look to take his seat in the 119th Congress.
Some people are theorizing that Gaetz is refusing to return to Congress because he wants to avoid any further investigation. If Gaetz were to enter Congress again, he could end up under attack from the House Ethics Committee, which only has jurisdiction over active members of Congress.
The situation was made even more confusing and interesting recently when the House Ethics Committee deadlocked on a vote regarding whether or not to release the findings of their investigation of Matt Gaetz. The tie meant that the information stayed under wraps.
Allegations against Gaetz
The things that Matt Gaetz is being accused of are certainly not pretty. Included in them is charges of sexual misconduct and illicit drug use.
It should be noted that Matt Gaetz denies all of these allegations and has not been formally charged for anything, but many Americans were hoping to get a look at the investigation's results to learn a little bit more about who Gaetz really is.
Gaetz immediately resigned from his seat in Congress just a few hours after Trump nominated him for attorney general. The resignation happened just days before America's Ethics Committee was set to meet and determine the next steps in its investigation of him.
Many are speculating that Gaetz quickly resigned because he no longer wanted the Ethics Committee to have authority over him. I've even heard the conspiracy theory that Trump nominated Gaetz to help keep the wrongdoing sealed.
Several Senators immediately petitioned to force a House vote to release the Gaetz report.
Gaetz speaks out
For a while after the situation blew up, Matt Gaetz didn't say much. Recently though, he sat down for an interview with Charlie Kirk and shed a little light on what's going on. The primary thing Gaetz wanted conservatives to realize was that just because he's taking a step back does NOT mean that he's not going to be fighting for Donald Trump and justice.
"I'm still going to be in the fight, but it's going to be from a new perch. I do not intend to join the 119th Congress."
Gaetz claimed that there are a "number of fantastic Floridians" running for the seat and that he has "other goals in life that I'm eager to pursue."
Matt Gaetz added that he would do whatever Trump asks of him, just "not as an elected member of the government."

Do you think even though Gaetz is currently out of the government that the report should have been unsealed? Or is it better that things stay confidential? Keep in mind, Gaetz was never officially charged with any wrongdoing.
