Rep. Greene calls for defunding NPR

U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is calling for the defunding of National Public Radio (NPR).

Greene made the call, according to the New York Postduring a recent appearance on the Fox News Channel's Sunday Morning Futures.

You may be thinking to yourself, "This is never going to happen." After all, it has been something that has been talked about for many years now, considering NPR's far-left bias.

Now, however, there is a big difference.

DOGE

The difference is the incoming Trump administration's Department of Government Efficient (DOGE). The department will be headed by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, and its task will be to eliminated as much government waste as possible.

President-Elect Donald Trump recently wrote:

Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my adminstraiton to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies - Essential to the "Save America" Movement.

Musk and Ramaswamy provided a sneak peek of what they have planned in an op-ed that they recently wrote for the Wall Street Journal.

In the op-ed, they wrote:

But even without relying on that view, DOGE will help end federal overspending by taking aim at the $500 billion plus in annual federal expenditures that are unauthorized by Congress or being used in ways that Congress never intended, from $535 million a year to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and $1.5 billion for grants to international organizations to nearly $300 million to progressive groups like Planned Parenthood.

NPR was not directly named in the article.

Greene's role

To accomplish what they want to accomplish, Musk and Ramaswamy will have to work with Congress. To this end, both the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives are creating groups to work with DOGE.

The House group will be led by Greene, while the Senate group will be led U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) - who also seems to be eager to do some slashing.

During her Fox interview, Greene stated what she would like to see from DOGE, saying:

We’ll be looking at everything from government-funded media programs like NPR that spread nothing but Democrat propaganda, we’ll be going into grant programs that fund things like sex apps in Malaysia, toilets in Africa.

Greene added that DOGE as well as the congressional groups that work with DOGE will be looking at "all kinds of programs that don’t help the American people."

Musk believes that he can save the country trillions of dollars.
