A number of bomb threats were made against members of the House of Representatives during the Thanksgiving weekend.

The threats prompted the head of the House Democratic Caucus, Hakeem Jeffries, to urge for "maximum protection" for representatives and their families, as The New York Post reported.

“It is imperative that Congress provide maximum protection for all members and their families moving forward,” the Brooklyn congressman’s office said in a statement Friday.

“America is a democracy. Threats of violence against elected officials are unacceptable, unconscionable and have no place in a civilized society. All perpetrators of political violence directed at any party must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”

Placing Blame

Jeffries office said in a statement late last week that the recent threats and swatting incidents were signed by "MAGA."

The statement implied that the acts were committed by supporters of President-elect Donald Trump, who popularized the political slogan "Make American Great Again (MAGA)."

However, Jeffries' office did not suggest that Trump condoned such actions.

Threat Details

"Yesterday, during Thanksgiving celebrations, several Democratic Members of Congress, their families and law enforcement officials were targeted with violent threats," the statement said.

"These incidents ranged from detailed threats of a pipe bomb placed in mailboxes to swatting, all signed with 'MAGA' at the conclusion of the message."

The message added: "Thanks to the swift reaction from law enforcement, no devices were found and Members of Congress and their families were kept safe on the holiday."

Threats Toward Republicans

President - elect Donald Trump's Secretary of Defense Appointee Pete Hegseth has also announced that publicly that he has been the subject of threats and intimidation.

According to Hegseth, the day before Thanksgiving he awoke to a startling discovery that police were at his home due to a bomb threat.

"We are all safe and the threat has been cleared," Hegseth went on. "We want to thank law enforcement for their professionalism and bravery.

"I will not be bullied or intimidated. Never. President Trump has called on me to serve—and that is what I intend to do."
