Infighting among Capitol Hill Democrats as Trump prepares to take office
For the better part of a decade, Democrats on Capitol Hill have been united by their animosity towards President-elect Donald Trump.
Yet that unity may be cracking as a new report revealed that one of Trump's most vocal critics is attempting to replace a longtime colleague.
Jamie Raskin looking to unseat Jerry Nadler on House Judiciary Committee
According to the Washington Examiner, there have been "rumblings" that Maryland Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin is angling to become his party's ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee.
That position is currently held by 77-year-old New York Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler, who has served in Congress since 1992.
The Examiner noted that Raskin addressed the issue this past weekend during a Sunday appearance on CNN's "State of the Union.
"Jerry Nadler is a great leader and a great friend of mine," Raskin said. "Obviously, we are going through discussions within our caucus about who’s going to be in different positions at this point, but I have great respect and admiration for Jerry Nadler, I really do."
Raskin announces candidacy in letter
"We’re engaged in conversations all with the purpose of creating a strategic focus and capacity within the Democratic members of the House so that we’re going to be a really effective and muscular opposition," the Maryland lawmaker continued.

"We’re engaged in conversations all with the purpose of creating a strategic focus and capacity within the Democratic members of the House so that we’re going to be a really effective and muscular opposition," the Maryland Democrat continued.
However, NBC News reported that Raskin made his intentions clear just one day later in a letter written to other House Democrats.
Raskin "will turn to Jerry" for "wise counsel and political judgment"
"In the 119th Congress, the Judiciary Committee will be the headquarters of Congressional opposition to authoritarianism and MAGA’s campaign to dismantle our Constitutional system and the rule of law as we know it," Raskin wrote.
"I hope to be at the center of this fight and — as someone who has battled cancer and chemotherapy — I can tell you that I will never, never surrender," he added.
"I should say, finally, that I take this step with respect and boundless admiration for my friend Jerry Nadler and his remarkable half-century of service in public office in New York and Congress," Raskin stressed.
The congressman went on to promise that he "will turn to Jerry first and throughout for his always wise counsel and political judgment."
