The White House of President Joe Biden is considering pardoning individuals whom the Democrats believe are likely targets of President-Elect Donald Trump. 

This is according to a new report from Politico.

This comes after Biden's "blanket" pardon of his son, Hunter Biden, which has garnered bipartisan criticism.

That criticism would likely only get worse were Biden to issue these "preemptive pardons," which is likely why he is hesitating to do so.

The details

According to Politico, "a vigorous internal debate" is currently going on in the White House.

Per the outlet:

President Joe Biden’s senior aides are conducting a vigorous internal debate over whether to issue preemptive pardons to a range of current and former public officials who could be targeted with President-elect Donald Trump’s return to the White House, according to senior Democrats familiar with the discussions.

The outlet goes on to explain why it is that the White House is debating the issue so "carefully."

It reports:

The White House officials, however, are carefully weighing the extraordinary step of handing out blanket pardons to those who’ve committed no crimes, both because it could suggest impropriety, only fueling Trump’s criticisms, and because those offered preemptive pardons may reject them.

This is not to mention the fact that it could set a bad precedent.

Possible targets

Leftist media outlets are trying to make it appear as though Trump is gunning for certain individuals who may have wronged him.

As for some of these potential targets, the Washington Examiner reports:

Those considered for pardons include Sen.-elect Adam Schiff (D-CA) and former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney, both members of the Jan. 6 committee. Former head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Anthony Fauci, who has been extensively criticized by many on the Right, has been considered for a pardon as well, according to the outlet.

It should be noted that there is no clear evidence suggesting that Trump intends to use the Department of Justice (DOJ) to go after any of these people.

Legal experts have suggested that the DOJ should at least investigate the way that the Biden administration has weaponized the legal system against Trump. This would include an investigation of such people as Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D), New York Attorney General Letitia James (D), Special Counsel Jack Smith, and others.

Trump, though, has not really spoken much about any of this. Instead, he has made it clear that his number one focus upon entering the White House will be "Making America Great Again."
