Last week saw members of Congress vote against releasing a report by the House Ethics Committee on former Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz.

However, the committee's ranking Democratic member has now been accused of leaking the material to reporters.

Sources say Rep. Susan Wild admitted to leaking material

According to The Hill, sources say that Pennsylvania Democratic Rep. Susan Wild was not present for a meeting of the House Ethics Committee last Thursday.

The website noted that the source did not specify whether Wild's absence was voluntary or if she had been instructed not to show up.

However, two other sources said that Wild has acknowledged to other committee members that she did indeed leak the report on Gaetz.

The Hill pointed out that such a move would constitute a violation of the oath that committee members and their staff are required to take.

Wild's chief of staff denies wrongdoing

It reads, "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will not disclose, to any person or entity outside the Committee on Ethics, any information received in the course of my service with the Committee, except as authorized by the Committee or in accordance with its rules."

Jed Ober serves as Wild's chief of staff, and in a statement provided to The Hill, he denied that the congresswoman's absence was indicative of wrongdoing on her part.

"Rep. Wild was frustrated by the manner in which the report was handled and didn’t feel it was fruitful to participate in any further meetings on its 'potential' release," Ober said.

"Characterizing it as anything more is inaccurate. There will be no further statement," the chief of staff went on to insist.

Gaetz to become an anchor on One America News Network (OAN)

Gaetz resigned from his House seat after being nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as attorney general but subsequently withdrew his name from consideration in the wake of public controversy.

The Independent reported on Tuesday that Gaetz has since been hired to work as an anchor by One America News Network (OAN).

Meanwhile, Trump put out a social media post endorsing Florida Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis in the race to replace.

"As your next congressman, Jimmy would work tirelessly alongside of me to Grow our Economy, Secure our Border, Stop Migrant Crime, Strengthen our Incredible Military/Vets, Restore American Energy DOMINANCE, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment," the Washington Examiner quoted him as saying.
