One of the frontrunners to replace former U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) wants Florida to use gold and silver as legal tender. 

This is according to a new report from Fox News.

The potential Gaetz replacement is Jimmy Patronis, Florida's chief financial officer.

As we will see, Patronis actually has the support of President-Elect Donald Trump, which is why he is considered a frontrunner for Gaetz's House of Representatives seat.

Patronis wants gold and silver

Patronis recently released a statement in which he pushed for Florida to adopt gold and silver as legal tender.

In the statement, he wrote:

Gold and silver have been trusted assets for thousands of years, and it makes perfect sense to use them as legal tender. I'm launching this study to determine the best way to get it done

What Patronis is hoping is that this study will convince Florida's legislature to make the switch to gold and silver for legal tender.

Per Fox:

He indicated to Fox News Digital that he hopes the study will pave the way for the state legislature to approve legislation "to allow this type of economic freedom right here in the state of Florida."

We will have to see if Patronis can make it happen.

In the meantime...

Patronis has received the support of Trump - and numerous Trump allies - for a U.S. House seat.

The seat was vacated by Gaetz in a strange series of events. It began with the Congressman being selected, by Trump, to be the next U.S. Attorney General. Gaetz immediately resigned from Congress. Then, Gaetz's withdrew from the running for the attorney generalship, and he decided not to try to get his House seat back.

Now, a special election will be held to determine who exactly it is that will replace Gaetz in the U.S. House of Representatives. Republicans are hoping to get another strong Trump supporter, which is what Gaetz was.

Trump, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), and others have thrown their support behind Patronis. Trump has said:

As your next Congressman, Jimmy would work tirelessly alongside of me to grow our economy, secure our border, stop migrant crime, strengthen our incredible military/vets, restore American energy DOMINANCE, and defend our always under siege Second Amendment

Patronis has made it clear that he wants to help Republicans to carry out Trump's agenda. But, it is the Florida voters who will have the ultimate say in who they want to send to Congress.
