A number of lawmakers, including Sen.Eric Schmitt (R-MO), are positive that President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to head the FBI, Kash Patel, will be confirmed, as Breitbart News reported.

Patel has the endorsement of several key leaders that could lend him credibility when sitting before the Senate to be questioned.

He has also promised that he plans to reform the FBI, which resonates strongly with many Republicans, particularly following what some considered biased actions of the last administraiton.

Schmitt made his comments Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” outlining why he and others believe that the nation's law enforcement agency will be headed by Trump's first pick.

Questions and Answers

Schmitt replied to questions about the possible confirmation, saying, “I do think Kash Patel is the right man for the job. He served as chief of staff for the Department of Defense.

"He was a prosecutor and public defender and let’s review the tape here. The FBI was involved in spying on President Trump in 2016. The FBI was involved in the Hunter Biden laptop coverup. They pre-bunked that story with big tech.

The lawmaker went on to point out some other contentious decisions by the DOJ, saying "The FBI has investigated Catholics because they attend traditional Latin Mass, and the FBI has investigated parents who show up to school board meetings because under the us auspice of the Patriot Act.

"That agency is in desperate need of reform. Kash Patel is very qualified and I think he’ll get the support in the Senate.”

More Questions

Host George Stephanopoulos went on to more questions, saying, “I want to ask you about President-elect Trump’s decision to pardon those in the January 6 riots. You spoke out about January 6 and said violence cannot be tolerated. Are you confident he will not pardon those who engaged and were convicted of violent acts?”

Schmitt replied, saying that he thinks "what [Trump] said is he’s going to look at these cases on an individual basis, and as a former prosecutor or attorney general, that’s the exact right approach.

"You separate violent acts from nonviolent acts, but I think he’s been clear he’s going to view these individually.”

More Senate Support

Sen. John Cornyn made a similar statement on Thursday saying he is confident that Kash Patel “will be” confirmed as head of the FBI.

“People I know and who I trust speak well of him and I’m looking forward to meeting with him,” Cornyn (R-Texas) told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt.

Cornyn, who was previously the Republican whip and lost a bid to become majority leader last month, stated that Patel had "vast experience" and had been highly recommended by  “people I have great respect for.”
