DHS Sec. Mayorkas claims government needs expanded authority to 'incapacitate' mystery drones over New Jersey
The mysterious drone sightings over New Jersey and other states have caused public outrage at President Joe Biden's administration as they continue to give answers that aren't really answers.
Competency is already one of the Biden administration's weak points, and that was evidenced once again after Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told the public that the U.S. government doesn't have the "authority" to shoot the drones out of the sky, the Daily Mail reported.
His explanation -- or lack thereof -- only served to fuel a growing number of conspiracy theories regarding the drones' origin and intent.
Mayorkas claimed that "authorities" need to be "expanded" to allow the government to "incapacitate" the drones.
What did he say?
Mayorkas broke the news during a recent ABC News interview, stressing the importance of being given the authority to take the drones out after many, including President-elect Donald Trump, suggested they be shot down.
"With respect of the ability to incapacitate those drones, we are limited in our authorities," Mayorkas said.
"We have certain agencies within the Department of Homeland Security that can do that and outside our department," the DHS secretary added. "But we need those authorities expanded, as well."

Earlier this week, Trump wrote, "Mystery Drone sightings all over the Country. Can this really be happening without our government's knowledge." He added, "I don't think so! Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, shoot them down!!!"
There have been thousands of drone sightings over New Jersey and now New York, and some other states. The government has, so far, played stupid and not released any helpful information as the public continues to speculate.
Democrats join in
It's not only high-level Republicans demanding the government come through with more transparency regarding the issue.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) said during an ABC News interview, "This just can't be, no one knows why this huge drone is over their house."
Other Democrats, especially in New Jersey, have requested transparency and answers as to what we know, and what, if any, threat they pose to the general public.
Only time will tell if Americans ever receive the explanation they deserve.
