Don Jr. spotted jetting off to Spain with new girlfriend Bettina Anderson following split with fiance Kimberly Guilfoyle
The media erupted last week with reports about Donald Trump Jr.'s apparent broken engagement with Kimberly Guilfoyle and burgeoning relationship with his new girlfriend, Palm Beach socialite Bettina Anderson.
On Thursday, Don Jr. and Anderson were spotted together at the Miami International Airport ahead of a flight to Madrid, Spain, according to the Daily Mail.
It was unclear if the new couple was headed to Madrid for business or pleasure, or even if Spain was their final destination or merely the first stop of a broader visit that would include other European nations.
Headed to Spain
Per the Daily Mail, the sighting of Don Jr. and Anderson at the airport came just a few days after he showed her off publicly for the first time on a dinner date at his father's Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, which prompted a flurry of media reports about the end of his prior engagement to marry Guilfoyle.
Indeed, there was speculation that the trip to Madrid was, at least in part, an effort to escape the "prying eyes" of the paparazzi who've been documenting their every move in recent days, though the new relationship has been known about locally for the past several months.
One unnamed source told the outlet last week, "Trump insiders have known about Bettina for months" and noted that Don Jr. has been "chomping at the bit to show her off at Mar-a-Lago."
"She's been there before, of course, but he's been much more discreet about being together. And together they are," the insider added. "He's bewitched by Bettina -- her looks, her smarts, her pedigree. Now that Kim is out of the picture the relationship is going to get even more serious."
An "amicable" and "friendly split"
People magazine reported last week that Don Jr., 46, and Guilfoyle, 55, began dating in 2018 and got engaged in 2020, but reached a mutual agreement to go their separate ways in what an insider source described as "not a contentious split," albeit one that was kept quiet so as not to disrupt or distract from the 2024 campaign.
"It's an amicable split. It's not one that is going to blow up, at least at this point," the anonymous source continued. "It's a friendly split between Kimberly and Don Jr.," who's "had a very long engagement [and] it was kind of in a holding pattern."
"The Trump family is still enamored with her," the source added of Guilfoyle. "She's very intelligent, very smart, very loyal. Even before she and Don were together, she was close with the family. She knew Donald before she knew Don Jr., and that connection is strong. So nothing has changed."
Don Jr. "will never stop caring for" Guilfoyle despite breakup
In what could be described as public relations damage control following the end of their years-long engagement, the New York Post's Page Six reported that Don Jr. said in a statement on Friday, "Kimberly and I will never stop caring for each other and will always keep a special bond."
Noting Guilfoyle's nomination to serve President-elect Donald Trump as his ambassador to Greece, he continued, "I could not be more proud of her and the important role she’ll continue to play in my father‘s administration."
"Anyone taking baseless and petty fake news cheap shots at her in the tabloids are just embarrassing themselves," Don Jr. said of the media coverage of their breakup. "She’s been an undefeated prosecutor, national TV news star, a leader of the MAGA movement, and close advisor to the president. The people of Greece are getting an absolute star and now the whole world will see it more than ever."
He added, "Since the very beginning, no one on Team Trump has worked harder than Kimberly to help elect and reelect my father -- and no one deserves this ambassadorship more than she does."
